Event Reflection: International Indigenous Peoples as Catalysts for Global Stability and Prosperity Event- February 6 2025
The International Indigenous Peoples as Catalysts for Global Stability and Prosperity event was held on February 6, 2025. The Baha’i Chair held this event virtually on Zoom. Dr. Michael A. Orona is the keynote speaker during the event.
Dr. Orona emphasized and acknowledged the vital role of the indigenous people in fostering global stability and prosperity. The knowledge, traditions, and leadership of indigenous peoples around the world are often overlooked when it comes to discussions on international relations and global affairs.
There is a staggering number: one third of the world’s 900 million rural poor are considered to be indigenous peoples. There have been unfavorable policies that have resulted in limited access to resources, opportunities, and wealth for those in indigenous communities. Dr. Orona emphasizes that representatives and government officials must collaborate to create a more comprehensive society so that indigenous people are able to reach their full potential by sharing their traditional knowledge, imparting their unique perspectives on how to confront the global challenges that we are all facing. During the presentation, Dr. Orona emphasized the importance of recognizing indigenous people for all of the work that they do.
