Maryland Day 2023 Success

In the weeks leading up to Maryland Day 2023, we stressed about what we should do if the rain that was forecasted really showed up. Luckily we needn’t have worried. The rain came and went, and on Saturday, the 28th of April it was a lovely spring day, though a bit damp. All the volunteers really appreciated that it was not too hot. And the nice weather had the added benefit of bringing thousands of happy visitors to campus.

Learning from last year, we had double the number of balloons ready to go, but once again, we ended up giving them all away. This year the activity that Meredith and I developed was chosen to be part of the Do Good Scavenger Hunt. Participants could complete three activities and then get a free t-shirt.

For our Path to Peace activity, we asked visitors to write down something they could do to make the world a more peaceful place on a footprint and then add it to our path board.

We ended up having 870  responses!

It was so wonderful to be able to have the chance to speak and interact with so many members of our community. The day was very busy, as we saw much more foot traffic than we anticipated.

We constantly filled balloons and cut out footprints to make sure we had enough for everyone. At the end of a tiring day, we were able to feel very satisfied with the outcome of all our crafting and planning.

It was a wonderful Maryland Day, and we are so grateful to all of you who came out to visit us!
