Maryland Day is Almost Here!

We are just a short time away from my favorite day of the year… Maryland Day!

Since we’ve been back in person I’ve greatly enjoyed being able to connect face-to-face with new people. Maryland Day is a chance to meet people, share ideas, and introduce The Bahai Chair to new students and faculty on campus. My favorite part is being able to share the work that we do at The Chair with someone who is passionate about our research themes. I greatly enjoy connecting with someone who does similar work or with someone who wants to learn more about what we do and how they can get involved. I am so passionate about the goal that The Chair has and get excited about the opportunity to share it with others.

Last Maryland Day we had an interactive activity where people passing by would pin a place they have traveled to and share how that experience changed their perspective. People were ecstatic about the opportunity to share their experiences and what they had learned through experiencing new cultures. Those who participated had traveled to over 75 countries!

This year Stella and I have created another interactive activity that will create conversation. We create “The Path to Peace”. We created a winding path that participants will be able to write what they believe it will take to get farther in our journey of reaching world peace. I love the days at the office when Stella and I get to bring our vision to life and plan how we can best facilitate meaningful interactions at our Maryland Day tent. The hope is to create a fun and hands-on way to start conversations about what peace means and how we can get there.

College students are starting to become very active in social justice issues. Many of my classmates have gone to DC for peaceful protests to stand up for causes such as climate change or women's rights. I’m hoping on Maryland Day we can reach these young and passionate individuals on campus and talk to them about our upcoming events. I hope the students on campus will be excited to learn more about the causes they are already involved in.
