Vaughn Holsey
One of nine children born to Mr. Herbert E. Holsey Sr. and Elizabeth H. Holsey, Vaughn Holsey was born in Bethesda, Maryland. His grandfather was Nelson Cooper, who grew up as an orphan on the Riggs Farm until his father found him and moved him to the Scotland community of Montgomery County. His grandfather was ultimately able to purchase an acre of land for each of his six children. Holsey grew up in the historic Scotland neighborhood and attended local public schools. He received his B.S. Degree in Fine Arts from Morgan State University and an M.A. in Art Education and Studio Art from The Corcoran School of the Arts and Design. Since 1992, he has been an Art Teacher and the Fine Arts Department Chair at DeMatha Catholic High School. He has studied at Bowie State University, SCAD, University of Maryland, The Art Institute of Chicago, and MICA. His work is in both personal and museum collections, including the Arts Alive Gallery, Strathmore Hall, Scotland Community Center, Sandy Spring Slave Museum, and DeMatha Catholic High School.
